Moving Toward the Divine
To move toward the divine, to move toward the One Wholeness is essential to the nature of all human beings. Within every living being is a longing for the Great. It underlies all other drives. Beneath the grasping of the mind in so many different directions, according to one’s tendencies, lies a restlessness that causes one to seek, to secure, to strive. This restlessness, this discontent, is a fundamental longing for divinity, for wholeness, for oneness.
It is restlessness, discontentment with your separation, with your smallness, your sense of duality, your sense of being apart, not being complete, whole, fully fulfilled. Because there is a sense of lack, there comes a restlessness in the mind. According to one’s mental tendencies, samskaras, it will bring one to different directions, seeking different types of activities.
Beneath the activities and restless seeking lies this fundamental need because you have identified with smallness, with separation, with a little sense of “I” identified with a little body in this very vast universe that doesn’t feel safe but feels somehow alone, separated. In this separation comes the yearning for love, yearning to be close to another, yearning to unite in love and feel that distance between you and others dissolve, whether it is a lover, a husband or wife, a friend or child, one yearns to find love and a connectedness that transcends separation. This is fundamental. The mind becomes confused and begins to feel the problem is that one has not acquired this or that material wealth or not secured this or that relationship. Then pain of separation comes. That pain has at its root the entire sense of separation as you identify with a body separate from other bodies, not whole, not complete and with that “I” who is separate from others.
This is the fundamental cause of this pain. This fall from grace, this sense of separation brings about the pain. One hopes to secure the love that will solve that pain, if not in relationships, perhaps in financial security or position and power. In all these ways, people attempt to solve this pain but then, the moment you achieve your goal and the pain is temporarily solved, the restlessness arises again. It is like scratching an itch. The itch then begins somewhere else. Another need comes up. Another pain needs to be solved. Whatever you have built is always temporary and insecure.
The solution is to understand the source of the need, not to be concerned but to understand that it lies in a longing for wholeness, a longing for complete happiness, complete fulfillment, a longing for union beyond the duality of “I” and “Thou,” beyond the fearfulness of a temporal body, beyond all separations, a longing for wholeness, for oneness, for return to one’s essential nature, for return to one’s home, one’s source, one’s immortal being, infinite consciousness, love that is not bound by time and space, love that is of your own essential nature, that is the love of the divine, the grace of the infinite is this ocean of mercy, compassion, infinite love for all beings. That ocean, that cosmic nucleus is your very source, your home, your shelter in the storm. It is the deep seed, the eternal essence of your being where there is no “I” and “Thou,” where there is no separation, no loneliness, no pain of duality. There is wholeness, freedom, completeness.
That is your home, your source, your eternal essence. That is love not bound by form or time or space. It is in your own nature and in the nature of all beings. Every person is unique, is the embodiment of that beloved. Everyone you have deeply loved is the embodiment of that beloved and you yourself are the embodiment of that beloved, the eternal, infinite divinity, the pure love which is essence, consciousness, truth.
You are that and all whom you love are also that. You are held in the arms of love and infinite being and infinite Soul, a divine infinite essence, one with all beings. This is the truth of your nature. It is only the coverings of illusions in perception of your separation and duality that come from identifying with form that make you believe you are other than what you are. You are true immortal being, infinite unified unconditioned love undivided. In your true Self there is no “I” and “Thou.” In your true Self you are one. All that you have ever loved is with you, a part of you. This is your nature.
Suffering is real. The duality you feel that causes the pain, that is only a belief; it does not hold substance. You are ever free, ever fulfilled, eternal, unconditioned, loving awareness. You have never been different. You will always be the same. Only the confusions of mind and appearance bring beliefs that are other than this. Return to your own nature and know you are free. All right?
